Prayer: How to Lose Things

A Christian woman was once asked, “What do you gain from praying regularly?”

She replied, “I don’t necessarily gain anything, but I often ‘lose’ things.” She then listed all the things she lost through praying regularly:

I lost my pride.

I lost my arrogance.

I lost greed.

I lost my urges.

I lost my anger.

I lost the lust.

I lost the pleasure of lying.

I lost the taste for sin.

I lost impatience, despair, and discouragement.

Sometimes we pray, not to gain something, but to lose things that don’t allow us to grow spiritually.

Through prayer, we learn, grow, and heal.

A Point to Ponder

“Still”

Though paid for by Christ at the cross, in all its sizes and shapes and colors,

Sin is powerful still.

Sin is evil still.

Sin is abhorred by God still.

Sin offends God still.

Sin has consequences still.

Sin is to be hated and avoided still.
